RAND Texas Bankruptcy Statistics reports the number of bankruptcies by type (i.e., chapter of the bankruptcy code). Totals reflect total filings for twelve-month periods ending quarterly. For example, the number of bankruptcies in the third quarter of 1998 reflects the total number of filings from Oct. 1, 1997-Sep. 30, 1998. A twelve-month moving average is also reported. This reflects an unweighted twelve-month average of reported bankruptcy filings. For example, the twelve-month moving average for bankruptcies in the third quarter of 1998 reflects the average of the number of filings for quarters ending in Sep. 1998, Jun. 1998, Mar. 1998, and Dec. 1997.
The data are reported for U.S. states and counties. The source for these data is the Administrative Office of the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts. The source for population data used to calculate per capita rates is RAND Texas. Population is estimated for some time periods.
